The biggest issue is once an incompatible patch happens (either with or after an upgrade to the graphics engine), the older versions become obsolete and players with low spec systems can essentially no longer player LFS as it was intended (i.e. online). Now eventually this is inevitable, so there will come a point where you have to drop support for these lowest spec machines, but you have to do it when the proportion of your userbase is effected is very small.

Maybe with Windows 7 proving popular, XP machines will start to reduce in significance much more quickly, meaning it would be sensible to switch to the latest DX version in maybe just a couple of years.

Please search, there is already a "post your gaming rig" thread somewhere in off-topic (where I've just moved this thread).

Edit: not quite I was thinking of, but I found this.

Quote from G!NhO :They aren't expensive actually, but still nice though.

The car had one previous owner, he must of lost around 87% of the cars new price to devaluation in 6 years! Which suits me, as it meant I could afford one.

Quote from Jakg :All the pictures are the same

Oops! Fixed.

Quote from Michael Denham :All I can say is are you in your 20s or 50s Bob?

I see a lot of them on the road round here, but most suffer from three major issues:
1) Boringly silver
2) 100hp down
3) Only drive the front wheels

I've had this since the start of the month:

High res shots: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Makes a proper roar with an Arden exhaust system. Loves to drink fuel though. Still making me smile at motorway slip roads, or when racing an Elise back from Sunderland last weekend.

Sounds like virtual gluttony. First to become Fat-Pac wins.

Wow, that is made of the same stuff the legendary red barriers are. And the driver is a real man, keeps on driving as if nothing happened.

I can run some numbers that should prove the difference, if you want to base your opinions on that. I'd say you're doing it correctly at the moment.

I've moved your thread to a more appropriate subforum.

Perhaps here somebody who can help more with the issue will read it. I suspect the percentage of players with the Fanatec wheel is relatively low, so it take may take a little time for some good advice and suggestions to be posted.

Good that rFactor works with the wheel, which rules out any issue with the wheel. Posting a screenshot of your wheel configuration screen (in LFS) may well be helpful.

Quote from Fastwalker :Technology evolves gradually so u hardly notice it.

Gradually, but still pretty fast and consistently. I only have to think back to when I bought my first hard drive, it was thirty times larger than the drive in the PC I had at the time. That felt like a huge jump.
Having just upgraded again, some 12 years later, I now have three orders of magnitude more storage than I did back then (post upgrade). I would have struggled to believe that a decade ago.

If you only compare to what we had a year ago technology doesn't seem to more that much. Compare across more significant, yet still short, periods of time, and you'll see things are moving very fast indeed.

We could all look this up for ourselves, but if you're excited enough to make the suggestion, please list the advantages of upgrading to the newer version.

This is America/Canada, I thought cars only came with 5 litre petrol V8s, and diesel was still reserved for trucks and rednecks.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Although, part of that is that to do 110, my 4Runner needs to be doing 3000 RPM in 5th... :s

What's the big deal with that? Cruising on the motorway I can be sat at nearly 4000rpm in my Mondeo. So that means 3000rpm is roughly 100km/h.

Quote from Becky Rose :I still can't believe I failed my first test, and after I saved my instructors life too! We were totaly going to hit that bus until I saved us! Really...

Agreed. I too failed my first test, damn parked cars coming from all directions.

Before I read the thread I thought "oh no, another thread to close or bin". Not the case though.

I'm waiting for someone to post a reply sharing their experience, without reading the OP.

Quote from J@tko :No no - he said "technology", not "girls".

OMG you're right, women and technology are converging!

Does this mean more women will work in IT? The male to female ratio here is currently around 75:2. With a more equal ratio, I'm on a much more level playing field with other guys, and I'm just stuck with the age old problem of convincing them to sleep with me.

Alternatively, does it mean that I'll just end up designing and programming robotic women?

Smaller, much more energy efficient, simpler to use, infuriatingly automatic, and damn complicated under the skin.

Quote from tristancliffe :In fact, peak power and peak torque are probably the most useless bits of information ever published.

It's possible to make a reasonable estimation of the torque curve from peak torque onwards from that data. Not quite reasonable enough to make decent predictions about shift points though.

In the absense of a torque curve, I'd much rather have those four figures than nothing at all.

How much use would the fast end of the damper curve get used on a smooth racetrack? Not as much as your typical B-road surely?
